Source Review Checklist

Use this checklist before adding a source to an Anatomy Steward Wiki entry.

A source should be:

  • public
  • stable
  • relevant to the entry
  • appropriate for non-technical education
  • clear about authorship or institutional source
  • safe to link from a public educational wiki

Preferred sources include:

  • museum public education pages
  • university public education pages
  • public-domain books or plates
  • introductory anatomy or osteology textbooks
  • museum documentation guidance
  • public science education resources
  • rights-clear digital collection records

Avoid sources that are:

  • private files
  • unclear image sources
  • restricted documents
  • forum posts without authority
  • commercial sales listings
  • technical preparation manuals
  • biological material handling instructions
  • graphic or sensational content
  • content with unclear rights

Before using or linking an image source, check:

  • Who created it?
  • Is the source public?
  • What are the reuse rights?
  • Is attribution required?
  • Does it show sensitive material?
  • Is it educational rather than sensational?
  • Can it be described clearly with alt text?

When adding a source, prefer short citations or source notes rather than long quotations.

Visitors may suggest sources using the Wiki suggestion form. Suggestions are reviewed before publication.
