Plain Language Standard

Plain language standard means writing public explanations so they are accurate, clear, and understandable to non-specialist visitors.

A digital museum should not require visitors to already know technical vocabulary. Plain language helps make interpretation more accessible while still respecting accuracy.

  • Look for short sentences and defined terms.
  • Check whether technical terms are explained.
  • Avoid unnecessary jargon.
  • Keep uncertainty visible.

Ask students to rewrite a technical label for a general audience while preserving accuracy.

Public sources will be added as this entry is reviewed and expanded.

This entry explains public writing standards. It does not simplify content by removing necessary safety, rights, cultural, or sensitivity boundaries.
