Theme

Theme identifies the interpretive topic that connects a record to exhibits, routes, or teaching activities.

A theme may describe the question or idea a record helps explore, such as skulls and diet, limbs and locomotion, preservation history, or teaching collection documentation.

Theme helps visitors understand why a record is included and how it connects to other records.

Ask:

  • What larger question does this record support?
  • Which exhibit or route uses this theme?
  • What other records share the same theme?

Ask students to group objects by theme and explain what each group helps them compare.
